Why KOKO

At 20, Cuca left Barcelona to explore rural Japan, a place rich in tradition and simple beauty. She arrived in a quiet southern village, surrounded by cherry blossoms and a slower pace of life. Immersing herself in the local culture, she learned the language and customs, and appreciated the profound simplicity of everyday life.

She was welcomed by a Japanese friend she had met at art school in Barcelona. Her friend introduced Cuca to her family, who embraced her warmly and helped her navigate this new world, making her experience more enriching.

Over two years, Cuca and her friend shared the simple joys of rural life. Her time in Japan deeply influenced her, instilling a sense of peace and harmony with nature.

Twenty years later, back home, Cuca felt a longing to honour her experiences in Japan. She created KOKO, a restaurant that blended her Hispanic heritage with Japanese aesthetics. The menu at KOKO reflects her journey: sushi with cilantro, tempura with a spicy twist. KOKO is a humble tribute to her time in Japan and the friendships that shaped her life.

Who is KOKO

KOKO is named after Lola's best friend, a loyal dog who has been a constant companion to our beloved friends back in Spain. In honour of the little ones who conquer our hearts, we decided to name our restaurant KOKO, celebrating the joy and love they bring into our lives.
